"Should auld acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? Should auld acquaintance be forgot and auld lang syne?" To that question, I say, "no." This auld acquaintance song used to be the quintessential New Years' Eve tune. I say used to because come on…if Ella Fitzgerald's What Are You Doing New Year's Eve is not THE New Year's song of the past six decades, I will eat my hat and my 2025 New Year glasses!
Back to auld acquaintance, according to Google, the song is not about never talking to your aloof neighbor or coworker from college ever again. It's about letting the past roll off you like water off a duck's back. I am historically bad at doing that. I love reflecting on the past, which to me, is part of the fun of New Year's Eve/Day. You get to look back at all of the cool and lame things you've done this year and praise or punish yourself accordingly. That, IMHO, is far better than letting auld acquaintance be forgotten. But that is what the song demands of me, so I am going to forget everything that happened in 2024 and replace it with these hilarious memes.
