The term 'Girl Code' is bandied around a lot, and there is no real universal understanding of what it means. It seems as though you can cite it whenever you want to cite it since there are no hard and fast rules we all agree on. Maybe it's understood that part of Girl Code is refraining from dating a good friend's ex, but people break that rule all the time. What if it turns out that you're soulmates? Or maybe it's that the needs of your platonic girlfriends should come before the needs of your romantic partner, but that seems unreasonable at a certain point. Or at least it's just too vague to make sense. But behind all the axioms of Girl Code lies an ethos of women respecting women, and looking out for each other when we can, especially when it comes to relationships with men.
But nowhere in Girl Code does it ask women to go into debt so they can spare the feelings of another woman they may or may not actually know. That's what happened in this story, though, when a woman had a pretty insane request from her ex-husband's new partner. Read on for the story and see what you think.
